Trip Overview
We specialize in solo trips for women to Costa Rica!
Join our expert Bold Spirit facilitator on this seven-day, women-only, small group adventure to Central America. This is one of our most popular wintertime solo trips for women.
Costa Rica offers all the ingredients you need for a perfect tropical escape: palm-fringed beaches, friendly locals, warm weather, and thermal-fed spas.
This winter, hit the reset button in this tiny country where beauty and the “pura vida” lifestyle abound.
Explore Costa Rica with a naturalist guide who knows and loves the country well. Soak in thermal springs near Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
Zipline through the jungle like a monkey. Spot agoutis, monkeys, and motmots and more. Stroll along pristine Pacific beaches.
This is a fun-packed trip with lots of opportunities to connect with yourself, other adventurous women, and this beautiful slice of paradise. Leave the logistics to us and prepare to be pampered.
Note: All tours include a pre-journey online planning session. You will receive a packing list for this trip.
This itinerary can be modified at the discretion of the Bold Spirit Travel facilitator. If part of the trip has to be changed, we will replace the experience with something equally awesome. We promise!

DETAILED Itinerary
Day 1: HIt Reset in Paradise
Do you want to arrive early? We have a block of hotel rooms reserved for guests who would like to arrive on Feb. 18th and spend more time in paradise. If this sounds like you, then please select Extra Hotel Night when you register.
Fly into the Liberia Airport (Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport). Do not fly into San Jose.
Our private driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to Hacienda Guachipelin Volcano Ranch Hotel, our home for the first night.
Note that you need to be at the hotel no later than 4:00PM today.
Once at the hotel, hang by the pool, have a drink in the gardens, and walk the lush grounds. Maybe you just want to swing in your hammock for a minute? This place is totally gorgeous.
In the evening, join us at the bar for orientation. Then, enjoy a group welcome dinner together at the hotel restaurant and get to know your Costa Rica travel buddies.
Meals: Welcome dinner; orientation cocktail
Day 2: Playa Time
Do you hear the gentle lap of the Pacific Ocean?
No trip to Costa Rica is complete without time spent strolling the soft sand along palm-fringed playas.
But first, wake up early today and go bird watching with your guide. Early morning is the best time to spot feathered friends at the Hacienda.
Our private driver will take us from Liberia to Carrillo, a small town with a perfect crescent of beachfront. Paradise found!
When we arrive, enjoy a group lunch at the hotel.
In the late afternoon, it’s all aboard for a sunset tour on a catamaran. Swim and then partake in snacks and drinks as the sun slips into the ocean. Admire a sherbet sunset. Ahhhh.
After our boat excursion, we head back to the hotel.
Dinner is on your own this evening.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, drinks on the catamaran
Hotel: Hotel Leyenda (note that this hotel offers a beach shuttle and private beach area with loungers, a restroom, and sun umbrellas)
Day 3: Finding Your Bliss
Wake up slow. Have breakfast when it feels right for you.
The whole morning is free. What do you want to do most? Walk the beach? Swim in the warm Pacific Ocean? Enjoy some pool time? You do you.
Lunch is on your own whenever you want it.
In the late afternoon, we’ll head out to the Macaw Recovery Network to learn about these magnificent birds and see them up close. Scarlet and Great Green Macaws are some of the most recognizable parrot species in the world, they are renowned for their beauty, intelligence, and charisma. By protecting these birds and their habitat, we can support biodiversity conservation in one of the world’s most biologically important areas.
Later, join your Bold Spirit friends for dinner together on the beach in Samara. Samara is the town right next to our hotel’s location and has its own busy beach. Swap stories over fruity drinks and great views at our group meal this evening.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Hotel: Hotel Leyenda (note that this hotel offers a beach shuttle and private beach area with loungers, a restroom, and sun umbrellas)
Day 4: Treetop Trip
Today, you are Jane of the Jungle. We will thread through the canopy like the monkeys do on a forest zipline tour. It’s okay to scream as you glide among the treetops. You will not be the first or the last!
*If you do not want to zipline, you can swap your experience for a 30-minute spa massage at the hotel instead.
The afternoon is all yours to enjoy the beach, take a nap, read a book, or maybe take a surfing lesson (additional cost).
Have lunch on your own or with a friend when you feel like it.
Our driver will offer an optional shuttle service in the afternoon into Samara for those who want to shop and look around this fun beach town.
In the evening, enjoy a group dinner together with your Bold Spirit buddies.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Hotel: Hotel Leyenda (note that this hotel offers a beach shuttle and private beach area with loungers, a restroom, and sun umbrellas)
Day 5: Back to the Ranch
Alas, it is time to pack up and get ready to head back to Liberia.
Along the way, our group will stop for a river boat tour (90 min) where you are sure to spot many more animals. The boat tour is followed by lunch.
Our private driver then takes us from lunch to Hacienda Guachipelin.
Check into your hotel room and enjoy free time.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Day 6: Hot Springs & Rapids
Wake up to the sound of the tropics!
Birds abound at the ranch and you’ll hear their morning chorus. If you’re up early, gather in the garden to spot birds with your guide.
Have breakfast at the hotel and then grab your day pack to join your guides at the nearby Rio Negro Hot Springs. Spend the morning at these amazing thermal waters and maybe even partake in the volcanic mud. *Please bring a swimsuit and coverup for the springs. You may want a plastic bag for your wet suit after the hot springs.
Lunch is on your own at the hotel.
In the afternoon, choose your own adventure:
Option A: River Tubing - Bounce and splash along five kilometers (three miles) of Class II and III rapids in crystal clear waters. Your river tube has special handles and a protective bottom; local guides will accompany you along the way. This tubing adventure is fun for all ages.
Option B: Simbiosis Spa - Maybe you prefer a quieter afternoon? Opt for a spa treatment (facial or massage) at the Simbiosis Spa instead of tubing. Unwind and be pampered.
Later in the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with the group. Swap stories and photos over drinks and delicious local dishes.
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Day 7: Hasta Luego

Travel Insurance
Insurance is strongly recommended for your Bold Spirit trip. We highly recommend that you obtain adequate coverage for cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects.
Your deposit and final trip balance can then be recovered via a claim to your insurance provider in the event that you must cancel your adventure due to unforeseen circumstances.
No refunds are issued 90 days or fewer from departure.
Check out insurance options at World Nomads, TinLeg, Travel Guard, or Squaremouth.
Other Considerations
Our itinerary is subject to change based on availability and unforeseen conditions such as weather or some really cool monkeys passing by!
The trip price is based on a shared room. Some private room upgrades are available for each trip for an additional fee.
Private Rooms: A note about the private upgrade. We know that some women need their own space. We pay the same amount for the room whether there are 2 people in it or just 1. When you get the private upgrade, you are paying for the other 1/2 of that room. This is why it costs more. We are happy to pair guests with a roommate which allows you to save money and make a friend. We have limited private rooms so please select that option when you register. Thanks for understanding.
Your deposit for this trip is non-refundable.
We use the deposit money to secure your hotels and guides, this is why it is non-refundable. Please get travel insurance so you can get your money back if you have to cancel for unforeseen reasons.
Refund amounts are determined as follows:
120+ days before trip: Full refund minus non-refundable deposit
120–90 days before trip: 50% of balance minus non-refundable deposit
90 days or fewer before trip: No refund
The minimum group number for this trip to run is six participants.
